Flat Snake Chains by Width, Length and Wearing Role

Choose a flat snake chain by the job it will do in your range. We recommend comparing the smaller millimeter profiles for a restrained chain-led look and the broader profiles for a stronger metal statement, then choosing the wearing length separately. A pendant project also needs its own clearance check.

For an initial assortment, select a few deliberate combinations rather than every width and length. Fixed-length choices suit a defined retail offer; a chain listed with length 'as require' belongs in a conversation about the exact finished length you need.

Two Flat-Chain Buying Routes at Relia

Relia · In-house jewelry manufacturing in Qingdao, China

Relia offers a fixed-length flat-chain range and a separate stainless-steel snake-chain reference with length listed 'as require'. Both let you compare 2, 3, 4 and 5mm profile labels across two metal-color directions. The fixed grid adds four offered inch lengths; the steel reference instead calls for an agreed length.

These routes help boutiques choose between a ready-defined selector and a more specific length enquiry through our Qingdao jewelry factory. We recommend keeping profile, color and length together in the shortlist. The millimeter label needs its measurement axis, and the selected product's base material should remain specific rather than being generalized across both ranges.

Profile Scale Without Confusing Width and Thickness

The millimeter label identifies a selectable profile, but a complete chain specification separates face width from edge thickness. This matters particularly with a flat snake design: the broad front and narrow side communicate different proportions even when the necklace is viewed at the same length.

Use the front view to select the visual statement and the side view to assess how the chain sits beside a pendant or another necklace. We would choose the profile family first, then retain the exact selected label through sampling and ordering. A photograph of a wider-looking chain is not a measurement of its thickness.

Four Lengths With Clear Metric Equivalents

The four fixed lengths give you a short-to-long comparison within the same product family. Using the standard inch conversion, 16 inches equals 40.64cm, 18 equals 45.72cm, 20 equals 50.80cm and 24 equals 60.96cm. These are unit conversions of the option labels, not additional measured product tolerances.

Choose the shorter options when your styling plan needs the chain closer to the neckline, and compare the longer options for a lower focal line or layering. The actual position depends on the wearer and fastening. Use a familiar necklace as the reference rather than assigning one length to every customer.

A Steel Range With a Different Length Selection

Our other snake-chain direction has stainless steel in both material fields and offers Gold or Steel Color with 2–5mm labels. Its length selection reads as require. Choose this route when you want to discuss a defined steel chain and a particular finished length rather than select from the four fixed-length labels.

The two ranges should have separate assortment rows. Gold and Silver are the fixed-range color names; Gold and Steel Color belong to the alternative range. Keeping those names with their own product photographs avoids silently carrying a finish, base material or length from one chain family into another.

Choose the Range for the Buying Task

  • Fixed-length flat chainGold or Silver; 2–5mm labels; four named lengths for a structured assortment.
  • Steel snake-chain directionGold or Steel Color; 2–5mm labels; the desired finished length is part of the enquiry.

Two Chains for a Deliberate Layered Look

For a layered selection, separate the chain roles instead of duplicating the same visual line. One possible starting comparison is a smaller-profile 16-inch chain with a broader-profile 20-inch chain in the same metal color. Both lengths are existing choices within the fixed range.

Their total lengths differ by 4 inches, or 10.16cm by calculation. That does not mean the lower chain hangs exactly 10.16cm below the upper one: a necklace follows a curved path around the wearer. Review the combined appearance and pendant position rather than turning a chain-length difference into a vertical-drop promise.

Pendant Use Depends on the End Fittings

For a pendant-led product, a narrow-looking chain is only the first filter. The pendant must pass over the largest fitting encountered during assembly, which may be an end tab or connecting ring rather than the chain body. A visually suitable flat profile can still be the wrong finished chain for a small bail.

We therefore separate standalone chains from chains chosen for an existing pendant. Choose the decorative profile here, then use the pendant-and-chain compatibility guide for the assembly decision. This prevents a chain-width label from becoming an unsupported promise that every pendant will slide onto the finished necklace.

  • Largest end fittingIdentify the part that must pass through during assembly.
  • Pendant openingCompare the usable opening with the complete assembly path, not just the chain face.

Preserve the Formed Chain Profile Through Handling

For a new flat-chain proposal, Relia starts the manufacturing discussion with the intended section rather than the shine in a front photograph. Stock profile and formed repeating geometry determine the face and edge presented by the chain; the end transition then completes its wearing path. A broader face is not automatically a thicker edge, and a reflective flat appearance does not establish a solid metal strip.

Our in-house chain-forming scope supports that geometry discussion without assigning one internal construction to every existing snake-chain reference. Keep the actual 2–5mm label with its color, selected length and measuring axes.

Once formed, present the chain in a broad curve with clasp and ends visible, separating different profiles instead of tightly piling them. Avoid sharp folds or knots as handling guidance, not a tested bend-radius claim. A separate sleeve or tray position can retain version identity, while the requested packing remains distinct from the product count.

An Assortment With Fewer Overlapping Choices

Build a concise range around one understated profile and one bolder profile, with a shorter and longer length for distinct wearing roles. This creates meaningful choices without filling every combination.

Add the second metal color when it serves your customers, using the same selection logic. Keep quantities and changed configurations separate from this assortment recommendation.

A Specific Chain Selection to Send

A useful request identifies a real combination, such as Gold 3mm with an 18-inch length, and states whether it will be sold alone, layered or paired with an existing pendant. Add the intended base-material and coating requirements for that selected product.

If pendant fit is essential, include the bail opening and the chain end that must pass through it. For the alternative steel range, state the finished length instead of copying a fixed-length option from the other family. We can then discuss the remaining specification and sample details around an already defined buying choice.
